The City of Golden, Colorado was in need of a new city flag. To gather community input and to support the local design community, Golden's City Council held a design contest.
To capture the essence of the City of Golden, JJS Design incorporated the fact that Golden is the gateway to the West and is geographically unique with Mount Zion, North and South Table Mountains creating its welcoming valley.
To represent Golden's small town quaintness, the oval shape mimics the curve of the downtown's historic Howdy Folks sign.
Only five colors were permitted in the overall design. JJS Design selected specific colors based on the local landscape.
Over 40 designs were submitted and the public cast their votes over the course of 30 days. JJS Design's flag design was honored as the third place winner.
